Kindergarten is incredible! We spend much of our time learning technology & literacy basics. The students are AMAZING! They are quickly becoming digitally literate in their technology rich classrooms. In addition to technology, a portion of our 50 minutes together is spent learning the foundation of literature, the elements of books, and various text structure. Students are able to select one book per week to take home and enjoy!
We also work together for an additional 50 minutes a week in each Kindergarten classroom. I visit each classroom one day a week during their Blended Learning time and we work on iPads as well as various sites utilizing the laptops.
First Graders have terrific technology skills. We continue to practice mouse skills and navigating between programs. We work hard as digital artists using kidpix while also practicing basic skills. Students also develop a love of literature through stories, book chats, and exploring the Monfort Library collection.
Both Kindergarten and 1st grade students receive instruction in digital literacy and internet safety. I use lessons and activities developed by Common Sense Media to hep prepare students for the digital world.
